You have some aspects of the original cards' themes (weak cards becoming OP, cards that tag team, Normal/Union support), but then there's a lot of the mixing with other archetypes and adding in effects that don't really go anywhere (Gusto/Kuriboh/Ojama/Mokey Mokey, also supporting Itsu Tuners without any Synchros)
